  1. For a few years now our Govts have hired large tankers from the U.S. for the southern summer such as the DC-10 named here Nancy Bird – here is media from last November. There are some C-130 tankers too – not sure where they come from. But the large tankers are still administered through the existing State Govt fire services which are riddled with union rivalries as we saw in March at the Tathra fires. The Nancy Bird DC-10 had gone home to the U.S. when the Tathra fires broke out.
