Australia has no “right of centre” Govt. now

Some commentators still refer to the the Morrison and NSW Govts. as “conservative” – cue hilarity. When you weigh up the Australian Commonwealth LNP Govt and PM Scott Morrison – they have slid so far left since 2013 they must be considered a “left of centre” Govt. albeit somewhat schizo.
The NSW Govt may be nominally LNP but Premier Berejiklian has since mid 2020 revealed so many Green policies – it is now ridiculous to regard her Govt as anything other than “green-tinged left of centre”.
I doubt any other State or Territory would qualify as “right of centre” under scrutiny – but I am open to suggestions.

  1. You could also add the SA Government headed by WhatzisName (you know, the one hiding behind the Medico or the Policeman on TV soundbites).
Went to the Conveyancor this week re selling house; was told to bring photo ID, valid Passport and a copy of my full birth certificate to prove my identity. Those are items the ordinary citizen has readily to hand eh! I’ve never had a full copy, only extracts, of my birth certificate when applying for a passport.
Obviously some public servant making up rules to keep themselves employed.
The government is now a minority as several backbenchers have resigned and will stand as independents in the next election. Accused of financial finagling expenses despite advice. More like the Pyne -Birmingham faction trying to get complete control. The only result has been to make Labor look a good choice despite their 16 years of bungling.

  2. >”Obviously some public servant making up rules to keep themselves employed.” [Graeme No. 3]

I used to think that, too. I’m sure it’s a factor, but only a minor one.

The true motive is obsessive control, informed by a sort of free-floating envy. You’ll notice that this despotic level of control is at its’ peak when a member of the ‘little people’ is attempting to access their own property, especially property that has real value.

If you’ve paid your mortgage off, do a search on property ownership. There’s a good chance that a bank (CBA, NAB, ANZ, Westie) is still listed as owner, or co-owner. They simply cannot bear a ‘little person’ owning something of real value. Even after you’ve paid the loan out in full, you still have to pay *more* money to make the bank go away !

  3. To comment briefly on Warwick’s thread point, Berejiklian has one outstanding quality – her utter sneakiness. To appreciate that, just review what she has actually done during her political life. Two of her most recent, and repulsive, episodes: abortion up till 9 months, and letting that hysterical Keene run the greenie thrust. Both of these required Berejiklian’s support, but it was completely covert. Sneaky … and as left as one may get.

Morrison. Predicted two years ago that he would double-cross those who voted for him, step by step, in slow motion. Just another career politician. Nuclear subs is a good tick, I agree, but he also hopes this will keep him in power.

Optional preferential voting will kill the career politicians (since you can vote ON or UAP without that vote leaking). So it will never be permitted.

  4. The notion of “net zero by 2050” is often bandied around on our media and news. Conservative or centrist or right-of-centre spokespeople should make the following points about “net zero CO2 emissions by 2050” but I never hear them. And I am sure they are better wordsmiths than me but I suggest the following is a truthful outline.
The colossal improvements in wealth, living standards and life expectancy that we all take for granted generated by western societies since the industrial revolution never relied on central planning.
New, novel and pioneering technologies were tried, tested and proven at workshop or laboratory scales, patents registered if viable, before being picked up by larger groups usually capitalists/public companies and if products became popular then usually costs came down as more people used the technology.
This proposal to commit to “net zero CO2 emissions by 2050” is an example of Central Planning policy.
History records that centrally planned economies fail when compared to Western economies.
And of course we know “net zero by 2050” is promoted by the GreenLeft & Labor plus renewable industry promotors.
If renewables – wind and solar electricity generation could replace our current grid generation; then it would happen easily and naturally without $Billions in taxpayer funded subsidies.

  5. Ianl8888, I am not in favour of optional voting because then you will get the Herr H situation- thugs preventing people voting, forced block voting (eg Unions, Greens), double voting (happening in OZ to small extent by unions which I have personally seen with absentee voting), cheating with dead people voting, ballots being replaced, ballots missing etc. Herr H got in with something like 34% of the first past the post votes with about 50% voting (note known Jews & communists were prevented from voting). The present German voting system (used in NZ) is meant to prevent domination to by one party but with parties actually choosing unelected can members it can be manipulated as has happened in NZ where some calling themselves Maoris are putting in place apartheid.
Agree everywhere the socialists seem to have got into power. Even in that bastion of democracy Switzerland Green policies are getting introduced with climate policy, phasing out of Nuclear power, opening up of immigration. 50-75% of referenda questions are rejected but the Greens are getting closer through their lies and pointing to the EU and UN.
We need some strong leaders like Reagan who can overturn socialist policies.

  6. @cementafriend

Optional preferential is my choice. That is, you can choose only 1 candidate if you wish. Having to fill out the entire card allows leakage of every vote according to hidden deals done between “horse whisperers”. So the option of not filling the entire card will not be permitted.

As it stands now, it makes no difference – hasn’t for several decades. We will lose, have already lost, large segments of our civilisation. Based as it is on affordable, reliable, accessible power, it cannot hold with just windmills.

I’m really worried for my children and grandchildren now.

  7. And unhappily, I now think the nuclear subs will never happen either.

It seems the deal insists on these being built in Adelaide, with the US adding the propulsion systems. That does not encourage optimism.

  8. State Lib MP and Transport Minister Andrew Constance is set to resign to apparently stand as Lib MP in the Fed seat of Gilmore –
Andrew Constance set to resign from NSW parliament for federal tilt 3Oct2021
I am surprised he assumes he has the Gilmore pre-selection in the bag.
SkyNews said this will precipitate a NSW byelection which Gov is not certain to win.
Cement, I doubt that Minister Kean will end up worse off out of this whole NSW leadership thing.
I am pondering if Labor would make for a worse Gov in NSW.
Here is another link to Constance story which may not be paywalled. I note the story describes Minister Constance as a “moderate” – IMHO that is leftie media code for “at least as far left as mid-range card carrying Greens”.
