What did I say in July ?

I have to think back to the Whitlam years to come up with a comparable state of shambles in our Federal Government.
The fascinating question arising now is – “..what madness will replace the citizen’s assembly ?”

#2 Ongoing BoM utter incompetence

This time we show the huge divergence between the September quarter Rainfall Outlook – and the actual rainfall deciles for the same period.

2010 Sep quarter Australian BoM rain outlook failure

Clearly the BoM have near zero predictive skills over 1 to 3 months out – any minor agreements are probably due to chance.

Yet our nations policy on carbon emissions will be built assuming the BoM and their supporting pro-IPCC orgs have predictive skills that compel our GreenLabor Govt to believe we will be seriously warmer over the coming century.

We are told by the BoM that September rainfall could be an all time record for Australia. Note this surreal article in the Sydney Morning Herald which starts by saying, “Global warming may have given Australia its wettest September in more than 100 years, but “extreme dry years” lie ahead, the Bureau of Meteorology says.”

This seems to me to be in contradiction of the facts as reported by weatherzone.com.au who say, “After their coldest winter in 13 years Sydney residents have just experienced their coldest September in five years..”

I have heard the BoM on TV news saying in effect, “September 2010 rain was an anomaly – we are really still in a dry spell and headed for dryer times”.

That seems to be the drift of their recent “Special Climate Statement 22” – I am suspicious of their Fig 3 in SCS22 and would like to see data back to pre 1900.

Time will tell if the BoM is right to say – “extreme dry years” lie ahead – but IMHO some sections of the BoM are stunningly incompetent and only mass sackings and a re-focus on their observing network would make the BoM relevant to Australian needs.

Osama Bin Laden in agreement with Australian and New Zealand Govts on need for action on climate change

Headline on ABC online news
Bin Laden calls for action on climate change
I just love the comment further down by the Australian expert – that Osama is “hypocritical” – does she have to be so nasty !!

Anti-uranium campaign steps up in Australia

We know the Greens oppose any mining and particularly any uranium mining and nuclear industry. Since the formation of the GreenLabor Gillard Govt in Canberra there has been a significant stepping up of the Greens anti-uranium campaigns both in the Northern Territory and in Western Australia.

In the case of the Northern Territory – amazingly the Labor Govt there has caved to Green and NIMBY pressures to come out in opposition to the Angela Pamela project. I do not think it is coincidence that both campaigns target one of the leading global uranium producers – the Canadian company CAMECO.

These matters are posted here because if society wants reliable base load electricity that is pretty much carbon free – there is no current solution except nuclear powered electricity generation.

Ongoing BoM utter incompetence

Every month the Australian BoM published a three month “Outlook” (prediction based on models) for rainfall and temperatures.

The Outlook press releases are often picked up by the media who quote them with reverence as though “written on tablets of stone”. I am only aware of one journalist who has had the temerity to draw attention to Outlook shortcomings – that is Andrew Bolt.

I have been critical of the hopeless inaccuracy of their results for years when compared to real world anomalies. I tend to comment more on failed rainfall Outlooks but this winter the temperature Outlooks were pathetic.

Winter 2010 BoM Outlooks

For a start – the entire Outlook map areas are predicted to be far too hot. This has been a common fault in BoM temperature Oulooks for a long time – look for yourself. What are these people smoking ?

  • Maxtemp panels: The Outlook is for daytime temperatures to be higher than average across all Australia and yet the actual weather turned out to be cooler than average over much of the continent.
  • Mintemp panels: Not quite as bad as maxtemp – but still overall far too warm – did not predict any green areas. They could not even get the overall shape right – the Outlook has east and west hot areas separated by a N/S axis. The weather was actually warmer in north – cooler in south – separate by an E/W axis.

My main gripes about the mostly failing BoM Outlooks are;

  • the BoM is advising Govt that future temperatures multi decades ahead will be warmer in line with the IPCC predictions, which Govt takes on board to justify their “great big new tax” carbon reduction policy – yet the BoM fails to have any predictive skill 90 DAYS ahead !!!
  • the Dept churning out these defective Outlooks is simply a waste of our taxes, so I say fire the lot of them.

Canberra solar electricity schemes bludge off NSW coal fired generators

The GreenLabor ACT government in Canberra (population ~300,000) has announced plans to increase the generation of electricity by various solar methods.
Of course this has the solar “industry” wetting itself at the thought of more govt subsidies. In all this flurry of feel low cost viagra In order to solve problems of these victims and others, there is an effective medicine, which can be helpful to continue enjoying the love life. However, it does not translate into meaning that you will be fine interacting with other people without any frustrations and viagra uk disappointments. The funny thing is, living in China is probably quite different from living in any other Asian countries. Some of the commonly obtained controlled substances are: hydrocodone, phentermine hydrochloride, alprazolam, and promethazine (in cough syrup women viagra online form). good self congratulation – there is not one mention that the only reason GreenLabor can afford to do this in the ACT is that we import our serious 24/7 electricity from the national grid – which mostly means – NSW coal fired generators.

Interesting nuances in IPCC groups treatment of New Zealand temperature data

We have all seen the news that The New Zealand Climate Science Education Trust, a newly registered arm of the Coalition, has filed a claim in the High Court seeking a declaration to invalidate the NZ Temperature Record, currently promoted by NIWA, and featured on its website.

It is fascinating the the Jones et al global temperature compilations which date from the 1980’s and are the series that fathered “Global Warming” – did NOT incorporate adjustments/corrections anything like those warming tweaks of NIWA.
By the end tadalafil wholesale of this article, you will come to see different IVF practices. 1. Now 25mg barato viagra the commitment I made to myself for this day is that I’d only do things that appear normal for men their age. This drug has no direct relaxant effect on isolated human corpus cavernosum and has no effect in the absence of physical love order viagra overnight often leads to stress and relationship problems between the couples. Death is a order viagra online permanent solution to a temporary if not the full loss of the ability for having and sustaining s stiffer penile erection for lovemaking session. Now the Jones et al global series ended in 2005 as CRUT2 and from 2006 the UK Met Office took over the data. The UKMO DID introduce warming adjustments/corrections very similar in magnitude to those used by NIWA.
This blog article of mine from 2007 points out the degree of warming over different timespans for two selections of grid cells covering New Zealand – for CRUT2 – CRUT3 (UKMO) and NIWA.
So we see, the very most emminent of experts – simply do not agree. So it may not be that simple for the New Zealand High Court.

Record snow in Victorian Alps – ACT Govt brings in 40% emissions target

Interesting juxtaposition of news today – record snowfalls at Falls Creek and the ACT GreenLabor Govt inflicting more mad taxes on us. While of course their incomes and super are indexed and paid for by – you guessed it – us poor sucker voters.

Contradiction in Victorian bushfires reporting

The Royal Commission into the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires has released its report. My main interest in this over 18 months has been to understand the timeline of what happened around Melbourne on the 7th of Feb 2009. A particularly telling fact for me was the statement by the noted fire expert Dr Tolhurst to the ABC TV show 4Corners on the 16th Feb 2009. Note that he was in fire HQ but had not heard of casualties by 8pm – when he went home. Now we hear from this news item quoting the Royal Commission report being critical of the then Police Commissioner – saying that fatalities were known by 6pm. I find it near impossible to believe that if the police knew of deaths at 6pm – that this information would not have filtered through to a savvy fire expert in HQ within 2 hours.
