  1. From Hansard Page 10.
Senator URQUHART: I saw an ABC News Online story in February where it was reported that without
significant rain Cape Town in South Africa would run out of water on 9 July. It’s understood that southern
Australian capital cities, such as Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney—although it’s a bit hard to
imagine Canberra, with the rain it had over the last couple of days—and regional towns face similar climate
change scenarios to that of Cape Town. In the context of what seems to be a climate change charge situation in
Cape Town, which, as I said, would run out of water on 9 July, could southern Australian capital cities and
regional towns face similar climate change induced significant droughts in the years to come?

Agree it does seem to be a case of using Cape Town to scaremonger similar to the article in NT Times.
