Amazing the media in Australia can not refer to the Prime Minister as a “lame duck”

The Coalition Govt we elected in September 2013 has been hamstrung from day one by an inability to get legislation through the Senate. In recent months with all the media yakka about increasing the GST and other diverse floating of possible increased taxation balloons – it must be obvious the PM and his Govt are lame ducks. Waddling in circles quacking this and that.

Yet Google shows the Australian media never state this obvious fact.

  1. … and with Lord Waffle too scared, and too narcissistic, to risk a DD in order to reconstitute the Senate

There is waffle-talk of electoral amendments to avoid the “preference whisperer” situation. What chance of that passing the Senate vote ?

  2. The reason the media say nothing is that if they did, the 53% who voted the Government in might start putting the pressure on the Independents in the Senate to give the Government a fair go.

Amazing that Gillard and co with 50.1% of the vote managed to push through a carbon tax and a raft of extravagant spending programmes. But of course the media was on their side.

The current media silence may backfire though. It’s crippling government action, but as long as that means the deficit is still out of control, the public are reminded that it was the last lot that created the problem, and that, however ineffectual the current mob is, going back to the alternative could mean a disastrous blow-out.

  3. Just heard Treasurer Morrison at Nat Press Club “nest of the left” finding new ways to say nothing about lots of possible sources of taxation. Media people scathing later about him saying nothing. But it is exactly what a Lame Duck has to do, look busy and noisy but can not do anything. They talk to the Greens about Senate voting reform, that should work out well. They talk to Lambie and show secret docs from TURC but they still cop the thumbed nose.
Heard the great Waffler in Rockie mention water but across our 7.7million square kms not a spade of dirt has been turned to dam a litre of new water since Sep 2013.
Most exciting times to be alive yawn. Drifting towards another useless budget for which the media will excoriate them no matter what they do. Then they will be in an election campaign with what story to tell?
That they are slightly less worse than the other mob.
