  1. Here is the Contents page – the book is a great read. I have had a reader email me on buying the book to effect that some material seems to him classified.

David discusses some of the spare parts prices for defence equipment – some prices will curl your hair. I thought $3,000 for the little mass produced 5.56mm (.22in) Steyr rifle was on the rich side.

  2. Private citizens are casting doubt on Australia’s most expensive military purchase by sharing their expertise online – and proving a headache for the defence industry.

The troubled $19 billion F35 fighter jet (02:21)

The F35 jet program has had its share of troubles. Overpriced, too slow, too visible on radar, billions over budget and years behind schedule, critics are worried we are falling behind our adversaries.

  3. Collins Class disaster –
Asia-Pacific Defence Reporter – April 2012 pages 28 to 31 are reproduced in David’s book – pages 34 to 43. A sensational read for many who have not kept up with news of the Collins Class submarines.

Here is a tiny excerpt from end of page 30 which staggered me – in view diesel engines have been made since the late 19th Century.

However Australia’s Defence does not reproduce the following article in APDR from page 32 to 36 titled – “Collins Class – life extend or euthanase”. The short para below para sums up at the end.
