BoM June 2018 Outlooks all failures

First checking daytime max temperature and we see a huge part of SE Australia with an 80% chance of seeing hotter than average days. The real world anomalies showed exactly the opposite with the SE cool.
The minimum – night-time temperature prediction had an east-west band of heat across the continent. And warmer nights in the SE coastal fringe. In real life June nights were mostly cooler than average across Australia with no sign of an east-west warm band.
The June rain Outlook was for mostly dry conditions in the SE yet there were many areas of average or near average rain there.

Labor asks coal fired generation question today

The PM was asked in question time by Labor re a statement by Paul Broad of Snowy Hydro throwing cold water on coal fired generation. I thought the PM shafted the stupidity implied in the question by pointing out that when Snowy Hydro 2.0 went ahead (great Dog of a thing) then Snowy Hydro would be buying power from coal generators.
Right now coal is providing 67.5% of the Eastern grid power – Gas is 15.4%, Hydro 15.8%, Solar 3.1%, Wind 0.9%, Totals 102.7 I see Paul Broad can speak from both sides of mouth. In April – ‘madness’ to close Liddell then in May Snowy 2.0 can ‘out-compete’ any new coal plants. If anybody can pass on exact text of question and answer please do. Our Resources Exports Volumes in AU$ are going backwards

The RBA publishes this chart which they update frequently and below I compare the July 2014 edition with May 2018. Resources were way over $40Bn a Quarter in 2014 – now just $40Bn and checking the wiggles confirms the backward slide. Rural, Services and Manufacturing have all increased since 2014. I am assuming the Chinese exchange rate is the reason but I have asked the RBA. If anybody knows reason please pass on.

Thanks to an eagle eyed reader who pinged me this.

Antifa was born in the USSR

Since the election of Trump it seems far left street protest mobs worldwide including Communists, Trots, militant Greens and the alphabet soup of Socialists have tried to cloak their violence by using the term Antifa.
The aim here being to imply that the current Australian Govt and everybody to the right of Turnbull are fascists, which makes it easier to oppose all western progress as fascist.
I had no idea Antifa was an ancient Commo term with roots in the USSR pre WWII till reading my book “Moscow Mission 1946 1949” by Walter Bedell Smith who was a General on Eisenhowers staff. On page 250 (in chapter on Berlin Blockade) there is a reference to German POW’s “..given the standard “Antifa training”..” Also refers to “..two major Antifa schools for advanced training.”
Sheesh! if you had been in their gulag as a POW it would be v easy to get the answers correct and get back to what was left of Germany and family and then be a little viral commo agitator for the Russkies.

NSW coal electricity generation strike ends

OpenNem charts shows clearly how after the coal strike from Tuesday 5Jun18 to Saturday 9Jun18 when coal fired generation was restricted to below ~5,500MW and imports & prices were up – coal is now generating up to ~7,500MW as required and imports & prices are down. Did somebody kick some butt? NemWatch has an article on the “outages” NSW coal chaos. IMHO the cluster of outages in cool weather looked deliberate, just part of testing and gaming the market. In order to get at the truth behind rocketing mad electricity prices we need a Royal Commission run by engineers.

NZ Labour Govt close gap in Northcote AKL byelection

Northcote was held by National with a comfortable majority at the last general election 23Sep17. The voter turnout was 77.57%. Yesterday 41.37% turned out to vote – this will increase a bit when final numbers are all addded but it is a pathetic result considering bye-lections usually go against the Govt although National should hold the seat. National could only rustle up 53.2% of their 2017 vote while Labour did better with 68.3%. So at a time when the new marxist lead Labour/Greens/NZFirst Govt has been stumbling between multiple botch-ups and crises – tens of thousands of National voters feel too lazy to vote and hand Labour a free boost. The Greens vote crashed from 6.73% in 2017 to 2.9% yesterday which would have helped Labour and NZFirst did not stand yesterday but got 1362 or 3.73% in 2017 so a good % of those votes probably went to Labour. The 2017 NZFirst candidate Kym Koloni stood as an indie yesterday and got a risible 95 votes – interesting. Media views – NZ HeraldStuff a bit more info – Whaleoil
