  1. So there was the odd inch or 2 of rain along that line on the 5th and 6th but what caused the standout cold day?

  2. I was alerted to it late Sunday afternoon by a lady presenter from Adelaide on ABC News24 TV during a cross to City of Churches re fires – she uttered a few words about record cold for Adelaide. But it quickly passed and I could have been dreaming.

  3. Perhaps o/t, but I’ve seen a few comments recently on various websites that seem interesting but unsurprisingly quote no evidence whatsoever.

The familiar oceanic oscillations IOD, ENSO, SAM (on which the BoM have published quite informative UTubes) have been regarded as quite independent of atmospheric CO2. In fact, there are ocean floor sediments from drillcores showing ENSO and IOD to have been operating for at least 11,000 years.

Yet these comments are now insisting that ENSO and the IOD are being influenced by anthropogenic climate change, and so the current crippling drought is the result of our profligate use of hydrocarbons. The hapless Andy Pitman (“climate change does not cause drought”) has been suitably castigated for breaking ranks, however inadvertently. To date the SAM is not included in this but I expect that will change.

No evidence is supplied to contradict the drill cores but this notion is being paraded through the MSM. We have enough experience of the MSM to know that the parade, sans evidence, will persist till this becomes public gospel.

So, my question. Are there any accessible papers or credible evidence supporting this ? I cannot yet find such evidence but in my view, it is critical. [Now I understand why Michael Mann is currently working at UNSW].

  4. Thank you ianl8888 for that reminder about Prof Mann.
We did see him on ABC TV news a few days ago – if anybody has a URL to a vid clip please post.
Here is a SMH article from a few months back.

  5. Warwick, have you noticed that the 14 day forecast for Perth isn’t predicting another day in the rest of the month to reach 30 degrees? That would indeed make for a remarkably cool Perth January.

  6. I have not found a BoM 14 day forecast for Perth (can you post a link Ubique ?) – but the BoM 7 day forecast has a few 30’s ahead
This 14 day effort from Time and Date dot com looks cooler but days rises to 32 at months end.
I noticed that starting with 2015 Perth Metro has had a record run of 4 Januaries with each year cooler than the last. I can not see a sequence beating that in all the Perth Regional Office data either. January 2020 will have to be below 30.5 to keep that record “cooling January” sequence intact. By mentioning it I have probably hexed that now.

  7. Radar shows showers just offshore Perth now and on the satellite screen do I see the remains of TC Claudia heading for SW WA?
