Watching TV news and seeing Bill Shorten going in to vote this morning, climate change was being brought up as a hot topic for near a third of voters. Climate is just a long series of individual days so it seems to me a perfectly valid question to ponder but it is never asked.

The light rail has now been built but I have a feeling Smith was right. The one good thing about the Canberra public transport set-up was the express buses between the town centres. Now the light rail has diverted a huge amount of resources to put in an inflexible tram that stops everywhere, including at all the lights, and requires mode changes at either end to get any further. It may be good for real estate values along the route but strip development along that axis will contradict the idea of compact, walkable city centres that cater to most daily needs.
