Australian PM Morrison open to lifting nuclear power ban

PM Morrison would consider lifting nuclear power ban
But his Govt is very much a lame duck – so there is little chance they could do anything before the inevitable Labor Govt. Just imagine if they decided to site a nuc power station on Commonwealth land at Jervis Bay. Cue NIMBY and Greens hysteria.

  1. A ban is absolutely crazy.
There are so many good reasons to allow them.
Morrison would win votes if he went to the election with a policy encouraging them.

  2. Even if Morrison wins the next election (that would require the ALP to go into deep squabble time a la Rudd/Gillard over potential distribution of spoils), he will NOT move further on nuclear power than weakly “considering” it. The meeja (and the lefties in the Libs) will endlessly crucify him if he dares anything else.

You doubt it ? Observe the hopelessness, the pathos, over the location of our Israeli embassy. Not even the shape of water, let alone going to water.

  3. A better and bigger site is the Commonwealth Military area at Tin Can Bay Qld.
The site is fenced and could be easily guarded to keep out Greens. Good excerise for the Cavalry Regiments based in Brisbane and Townsville.
Large powerlines already in place to supply Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Maryborough and Harvey Bay.

  4. I suggest Shoalhaven Bay in Queensland with a special camp for visiting protesters.
The camp could be sited in the middle of the live ammunition training area.

  5. tooright, I presume you mean Shoalwater bay training Area near Yeppon Qld. Shoalhaven is a river in NSW. Shoalhaven Heads is a city and Jervis bay is located in the council area.
Tin Can Bay military area is a much better location for a Nuclear Power Station.
It is near large electricity markets (Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Maryborough-Hervey Bay)
It is in a lightly populated area but close to commuting area for workers (Tin Can Bay, Gympie, Sunshine coast)
It has plenty of fresh and salt water for cooling
It is owned by the Federal Government so less environmental problems
There is no marine reserve in the area. Fraser Island would be a protection from tidal waves and cyclones.
It is a fenced miltary area and can easily be defended from environmental activists.
Being on the water it can get equipment in by barges.
University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) has an engineering faculty and has a campus at Gympie while the main campus at Sippy Downs is only 60 minutes drive away from Tin Can Bay. I am sure it would not be difficult to get top Nuclear Engineers to live on the Sunshine Coast and start a Nuclear Engineering department. As an engineer I would be happy to offer my services.

  6. cementafriend,
The most attractive feature of Shoalhaven Bay is the live ammunition training area being the ideal location for the protester’s camp.

  7. > “NIMBY and Greens hysteria …”

    Not quite OT:

STEM is now considered just oppressive, white patriarchy. Scientific fact and method is just a tool for oppression.

This is not only outrageously stupid, it is the death knell.

  8. Ianl interesting video. Hope it will not be as bad with quotas here. In US they are actually discriminating against Asians. Here I would say that over 50% of those in Medical schools are Asians (mainly Chinese origin) and the top surgeons are male Asians such as the late Dr Victor Chang. The surgeon (Dr Ho) who put in my titanium hip is of Chinese origin and is regarded amongst the best in Australia. Only today at a meeting the subject of assisting students for a new medical school (Mens Shed cohort to practise skills) arose and someone said the students will be mostly Asian males with a few females (Asian) so we should not get too excited.

BTW the following YouTube video on Brexit is a must for anyone that does on understand what it is about. The lies and machinations of of PM May and the Tory (consevative party in name only) government are depressing. It appears that the coalition government despite of getting rid of that traitor Turnbull still supports the traitorous remoaners. Australia and the world will be better off with Brexit.

Finally Marie Curie got Nobel Prizes (when they were worth something unlike now going to the PC crowd) in 1903 & 1911 without female quotas & favourism.
