Media lets Qld Govt off hook over backflip on Adani royalty issue

We were all bemused when Qld Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk was reported recently to be offering Adani a multi-$Billion holiday on coal royalties.
But we all know State Govts can offer companies inducements to attract projects they want. Then within a week Premier in waiting Jackie Trad of the left torpedoes the idea exactly in the engine room of battleship Queensland. All adding to Adani being mired in lawfare and professional Green opposition.
I am not so much commenting on the pros & cons of a royalty holiday but the way the GreenLeft main-stream-media skillfully lets Labor off the hook. 1. I have always viewed Premier Palaszczuk (luckiest and most unexpected Premier) as keeping the seat warm for Jackie Trad. Right from day one it looked to me like that.

  2. Beachgirl. It is very likely Palaszcuk will not be premier after the next election. Also, there is a good chance Trad will lose her seat unless she decides to move to a safer seat

  3. It seems Palaszcuk has been forced into two reversals of written agreements: the Royalty issue, which the Treasury UnderSecretary had given Adani a written guarantee for; the “middleman” role for a Fed NAIF loan to build the rail line.

It’s fortuitous (for Palaszcuk and her Cabinet) that States in Aus have no written constitution. Reneging will only attract pointed attention through the ballot box at election time – by then most of the electorate has moved on to other, hotter, issues.

And Waffle has still to amend the Native Title Act as re-interpreted recently by ALP-appointed Federal judges so that a single individual within an indigenous group cannot destroy a hard-won consensus agreement. I’ve had real experience with the NTA so I’m acutely aware that Waffle may well not succeed, especially with the current Senate.
