  1. Just noted that total Australian power production at close to 11.00PM EST was 23,700 MW. The total capacity of the 3 gorges Dam power station in China is 22,800 MW (32 turbines). Nearly all the so-called renewable power in China is Hydro and with China developing Tibet they have plans to eventually have 15-20% from Hydro, 50-55% coal, 25-30% nuclear and about 5% other mainly Nat. gas. The Chinese as with the Japanese want a diversity of supply. Australia does not have the luxury of hydro but we should be aiming for something like 20% nuclear, 50-60% coal, 20-25% Nat. Gas and 5% hydro, 0% wind and other (bagasse, domestic solar, diesel etc)1-2%.
