  1. Happening tonight too on TV weather news Geelong and Melbourne rain was “crazy”. If you google “crazy weather” you get many more hits than “mad weather”. I guess January is damp with moderate temperatures in too many places for the BoM.

  2. A NZ reader emailed this from Auckland press and said – The new catch-phrase appears to be Fine Spells – most likely sounds a bit more high-tech than “mad.”

And saying “fine spells” avoids need to talk about what might be between the fine spells.
Auckland has had 113.8mm since 2 Jan- and plenty of cloud crossing Tasman

  3. Further to the item on the Kiwi weather forecasting. On TVONE the other evening the weather lady, while reading out a rather cursory mention of Australia in her report – referred to Bass Strait as – Base Strait. I think we are missing the more expert weather reporting of Augie Auer.

  4. Bill Bryson wrote of an old weather forecast when he arrived in the UK and which he treasured,

“warm and sunny, cooler with showers”.

It seems things haven’t changed in 40 years.
