  1. You bet they’ll sign. Can you imagine the luvvie outrage if they didn’t? “Abbott offends whole world: thumbs nose at global plan for peace, justice, freedom, equality and all-round goodness”, yadda yadda.

I hear on the QT that the government doesn’t actually like it. They have apparently told the UN they don’t accept it’s “universal”. Canada and even the US are making similar noises. That’s as far as they’ll go.

Maybe the plan is not all bad. It might possibly help bring some pressure to bear on countries with marginal human rights records. But no self-respecting democracy should accept any “agenda” negotiated somewhere else. Australia should not pay the slightest heed to this document unless and until specific laws are passed by parliament on any individual issues it raises.

  2. Beware the Keynsian Bancor!

It will not be long befor Big Brother UN will be talking up a Global Currency – “to facilitate Global Trade after the looming Financiäl Meltdown”

I can just picture Little Kevvy back here lecturing the Government & the Media why it will be a savior.

It will be the end of any remaining sovereignty we have & the slave masters will come out of the closet.

  3. Yes Dave – you got the meeja line exact correct. Everything is Abbotts fault.

The ALP-ABC is running this story –
Paris climate summit: Frustration mounting at ‘snail’s pace’ of UN climate talks
    www.abc.net.au/news/2015-09-05/un-climate-change-talks-progressing-at-snails-pace/6752014
about the poor frustrated UN bosses trying to save the world. It would be great if there was some truth to it and we can only hope many countries are sick and tired of being bullied along to these BS climate time-wasting events.
And Tom – I thought Kev747 was angling for UN SecGen.

  4. I see it like this-

Helen Clark(e) got the UN Development Fund Gig for being a good little compliant Global Warmer & Kevvy ( & julia got really jealous).

Kevvy has spent pretty much most of his time during & since his time in the Big Chair poncing about going “I’m IMPORTANT – look at ME!!!”.

The doo doo is going to hit the fan with the looming Stockmarket/Global Trade Meltdown & the odds of the $US maintaining its post Bretton Woods hegemony is looking bleak. What better opportunity for the megalomaniacs at the UN to get a global currency in place to wrest control of the world economy?

What better opportunity for Little Kevvy to spruik his political & economic “Omniscience” as the man for an even bigger chair?

    Look Ma – No Hands!!

  5. Yes, Warwick and re the Paris climate summit, have you noticed a recent uptick in the otherwise slowly diminishing rumble about global warming? I seem to see a bit of a spate of the familiar “studies” that if you dig into them mean nothing at all.

Some are quite incredible. The IMF leader, Christine Lagarde, has been striking attitudes for years about the issue of course but now her research department comes up with a new study proving things are “worse than previously thought”. According to this, “fossil fuel subsidies” are wreaking havoc, and developing countries in particular could close their budget deficits, increase life expectancy and save the planet all at the same time just by getting rid of them.

When you dig into it you find the subsidies are not subsidies at all. Fancy even talking about fossil fuel subsidies in Western countries where fuel taxes are through the roof and coal is subjected to endless planning restrictions and lavishly subsidised competition from unreliable renewables. But nothing is beyond the imagination of these IMF eggheads. They just work out the “real price” of fossil fuels by adding in wildly exaggerated estimates of damages from emissions through particulate pollution and global warming potential. Then they work out the difference between this fantastically inflated “real price” and the actual consumer price of coal, oil, petrol etc., and call it a subsidy! So “abolishing subsidies” actually means imposing enormous carbon taxes. You wouldn’t read about it, but if you feel you have to…
