BBC reports UK Electricity National Grid only has 4% spare capacity this winter

It is hard to believe electricity consumers have voted in Governments that have weakened such a vital national interest as the UK electricity grid.
It is happening in Australia too and no doubt many western countries.

  1. They are HOPING for Global Warming to save them after shutting down fossil fueled power generation that runs 24 hours a day, regardless of weather. In exchange, Global Warming, Solar, and Windpower are to fill in. Neither one is reliable, and Windpower has to be filled in with Fossil Fuel or Nuclear power. Filling in means they have to change production levels, making them less efficient. THE BOTTOM LINE is there is not enough power, it is unreliable, and it costs a whole lot more. This could only be designed by politicians directing national treasure to their friends. It makes no sense either in the long run OR the short run.

  2. Global Warming is not happening. Instead, dramatic Deadly Global Cooling has already started, heading for a Mini Ice Age in full force by 2030. (See paullitelyl.com). Anyone who has looked at all the facts and science for climate and weather sees this. It is insane to continue to be mislead into shrinking the reliable powerr production base and spending Billions on subsidies for very inefficient and unreliable alternate energy sources. By the way, the mechanism for the Little Ice Age is increased cloudiness… fewer hours of sunlight each day….not good for Solar Power.

  3. One of the causes of the shortage is that the crazy electricity market – that originated in New Zealand – does not pay generators if they do not generate.

All power systems much have reserve capacity for accidents, unforeseen high loads and the like. But if you do not provide an annual payment for a generator who holds reserve capacity then he will shut it down. And your system will be on a knife edge.

Although all this appears to be plain common sense, senior people in the New Zealand electricity market deny that it is even a small problem. So, one day, we too will run out reserve capacity.
