Guinean schoolchildren in the capital Conakry who, lacking electricity in their homes, seek out lighted areas at night to study – airport, petrol stations, roundabouts.

A great contrast to Australia where children are “GreenWashed” to accept the turning off of their lights during Earth Hour.

  1. Brilliant catch Warwick. After five or six generations we no longer have any idea in the West what it is like to live without electricity. Yet nearly a quarter of the population of the world still lacks it. No lights, no radio and TV, no washing machines, no refrigerators, no hospitals, no way to store vaccines. And yet we are told we’d be doing the world a favour by making power more expensive so it would stay out of their reach???

  2. Very touching, young people determined to improve their lives. Impressive example of people power, started me thinking what happens to western aid in Africa ?
Just saw this site putting the NO case in the Local Government Referendum 14 September 2013

  3. When I lived in Singapore. Hundreds of school kids would go to airconditioned Changi Airport to study for their exams. A surprising number of homes in Singapore don’t have airconditioning.
