The article appearing in the Gazette of 6th- 12th November edition was
no more than an extension of Landcorp's propaganda promotion to force through
their plans for land at Tea Tree Close, Jandakot. I attended the first
phase of the Community Consultation, along with 10 other members of the
public, only just equal to the number of consultants and officials and
hardly overwhelming public involvement. The catch to this development is
its intention to destroy an area of wetlands and bushland that has previously
been recognised by the Government as worthy of conservation. The wetland
is covered under the Environmental Protection Policy listings while the
bushland was part of the original Bushplan documents only removed from
the final Bush Forever due to "Planning Considerations". The fact remains
the area should become part of the Conservation Estate not Real Estate!
The whims of Landcorp should not determining the fate of areas of "Environmental
Significance". Landcorp is mouthing off about Ecologically Sustainable
Development in the process but the first thing it will do is destroy the
existing functioning environment! This seems to be at odds with the City
of Cockburn's own Sustainable Development Strategy. The land is currently
zoned for Parks and Recreation so Landcorp has applied for this to be changed.
The public can have their say in this process by making a submission to
oppose rezoning of this area.
The Metropolitan Regional Scheme Amendment is No 1038/33 Thomson Lake
Regional Centre. Say NO to the rezoning of Tea Tree Close Bushland
