“National Night-time Hotspot” (NNTHS) errors still in BoM temperature anomaly maps 2002-2007

In February I wrote about persistent errors in BoM min temperature anomaly maps over a station in the south west of the Northern Territory – errors I first noticed in 2011. “Australian Bureau of Meteorology still have persistent errors in their temperature anomaly maps” The errors are still there for the entire 72 months 2002-2007 … Continue reading “National Night-time Hotspot” (NNTHS) errors still in BoM temperature anomaly maps 2002-2007

Faulty BoM data adds to Australian hot summer

Amazing – the NNTHS (National Night-Time Hot Spot)at its original Walungurru Airport 15664 has snuck back into BoM temperature anomaly maps this much ballyhooed hot summer. In December there was no sign of the NNTHS but in Jan it was obvious and in February the NNTHS made Walungurru the Star.. Interesting to compare with the … Continue reading Faulty BoM data adds to Australian hot summer

Australian March days were hotter in 1938, 1951, 1980, 1986, 1998 and 2005

The ABC acts as the BoM faithfull media lapdog – March temperatures sets record as hottest ever, Bureau of Meteorology says – We can see the duplicity in the way the article fails to be explicit about mentioning daytime temperature but in fact where they say “…reaching 1.7 degrees Celsius above the long-term average.” That … Continue reading Australian March days were hotter in 1938, 1951, 1980, 1986, 1998 and 2005

So Minister Greg Hunt ‘killed’ the excellent idea from Tony Abbott’s department for a Bureau of Meteorology review

Now I suppose we are stuck for evah with these insane year after year, after year, after year, after year errors by the ignorant BoM for evah. On the other hand maybe it is just by chance true that the hottest night-time temperature anomaly across all Australia – just so happened to be at the … Continue reading So Minister Greg Hunt ‘killed’ the excellent idea from Tony Abbott’s department for a Bureau of Meteorology review

Australian Bureau of Meteorology still have persistent errors in their temperature anomaly maps

In June 2011 I began drawing attention to what I termed the “National Night-time Hotspot” (NNTHS) – I told the BoM about this and I thought I noticed an improvement in their maps. However I have noticed the NNTHS is still writ large in BoM minimum temperature anomaly maps for all the years 2002-2007 see … Continue reading Australian Bureau of Meteorology still have persistent errors in their temperature anomaly maps

Canberra records coldest September night in 74 years – since 1939

Quite a morning for the 1st of September – and the 2nd is also frosty with the 30 minute data from the Airport shows a minus 4.8 at 6am. Even Toytown had a chilly morning Saturday. But a couple of things the main stream media do not rush to tell you. Australian mean temperature has … Continue reading Canberra records coldest September night in 74 years – since 1939

Non-climatic anomalies in BoM temperature anomaly maps

While compiling the Autumn Temperature Outlooks piece – I noticed what looked like an aberration in the contouring of the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) Autumn minimum temperature anomaly maps here – features that were repeated in the monthly minimum anomaly maps for March – April – May 2011. I am talking about the area … Continue reading Non-climatic anomalies in BoM temperature anomaly maps
